The Diocese of Muhabura has inaugurated a gravity water scheme valued at 100 million shillings in the Gitovu Archdeaconry, located in Mupaka Town Council. This 2.5 km project, which features nine water taps, was funded by the University of the West of England.

The Gitovu gravity flow scheme will serve the villages of Rurangara, Gitovu, and Gatera within Mupaka Town Council, benefiting a community of over 500 people.

During the launch ceremony, Rt. Rev. Godfrey Mbitse, Bishop of the Muhabura Diocese, underscored the significance of water as a vital resource. He expressed gratitude to those who facilitated the connection of the water scheme and to the donors who made the project possible. Bishop Mbitse emphasized that the water scheme is intended for the entire community, regardless of religious affiliation.

William Baributsa, the sanitation and water coordinator for the Diocese of Muhabura, noted that the scheme benefits more than 500 people in Gitovu. He urged the community to protect and maintain the water taps to ensure their long-term functionality.

Assistant RDC of Kisoro, Hagumimana Valence, extended thanks to the Diocese of Muhabura for this development. He highlighted that the project will assist the government in addressing local water shortages and pledged full support and security for the water scheme.
