The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, has implored graduands at Nkumba University to prioritize upgrading their education over earthly attractions for their future well-being.

He made the call today, Saturday, 25th October 2025, while officiating at the 27th Graduation Ceremony of Nkumba University, located along the Kampala–Entebbe Expressway.

Tayebwa challenged the graduands to refrain from the excitement that comes with completing their studies with high expectations of immediate gains, and instead focus on upgrading for contentment and a better future.

He also highlighted the challenge of unemployment and urged unemployed professionals to embrace government programs aimed at wealth creation. He revealed that the government is preparing funds to introduce new initiatives targeting the unemployed to help them become job creators rather than job seekers.

The Councillor of Nkumba University, Rotarian Emmanuel Katongole, quoted scholar John Quincy Adams, saying, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more,” and urged the graduands to execute inspirational work in their respective fields.

Juniorius Mugume Mutabatina, a graduand from Ntungamo District, praised God for the successful completion of his Master of Education in Management and Planning, attributing the achievement to stability, which enables quality service delivery.

Amon Mugumya, another graduand from Ntungamo District, expressed gratitude for his successful studies in the same course, assuring commitment to serve beyond self.

Derrick Tugume Rutwaza, also a graduand, expressed excitement for completing his Postgraduate Diploma in Education Management and Planning, attributing his success to acquiring knowledge and skills in research for sustainable service delivery.

A total of 2,087 graduands were expected to receive their academic documents, ranging from certificates to PhDs, to officially join the world of work by the end of the day.

This year’s graduation ceremony was held under the theme “Unlocking Potential: The Journey from Learning to Leading,” a message that could not be more fitting.
