The Rubanda District police have opened an investigation following the discovery of the decomposing body of an unidentified adult male in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park’s Ruhija sector. The body was discovered on November 5, 2024, around 9:00 a.m. by park rangers who were conducting gorilla tracking in the area. Upon encountering the body, the rangers promptly notified the police.

According to authorities, the man wore two pairs of trousers, a checked shirt, a coat, and closed shoes. A police team arrived at the scene to document evidence, and the body was subsequently transported to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Police are urging anyone with a missing relative fitting this description to visit the hospital mortuary to assist in identifying the deceased and arranging a dignified burial. Additionally, individuals with information that could help the investigation are encouraged to come forward to ensure those responsible are held accountable.

ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson, confirmed that inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death are ongoing.
