Kanungu district leaders, led by the District Chairperson Eng. Sam Arineitwe Kajojo, have expressed concerns about the sluggish progress in the construction of Kambuga hospital, undertaken by the UPDF engineering brigade.

Kajojo highlighted that the work completed thus far is inadequate given the time elapsed since the construction began in July of the previous year. He emphasized the need for a more substantial percentage of completion to assure them that the project will be finished within the agreed-upon timeframe.

The district officials have already alerted relevant authorities about the slow pace of construction at Kambuga hospital, seeking intervention.

Afande Deogine Kamugisha, an official from the UPDF engineering brigade involved in the construction, acknowledged their diligent work but pointed out challenges. He mentioned the adverse impact of poor road conditions and lengthy distances in transporting construction materials, particularly through Enengo. Additionally, he cited the scarcity of local materials, forcing them to travel long distances to acquire them.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the refurbishment of Kambuga General Hospital in Kanungu District took place in March 2023, officiated by the Minister for Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero. The estimated cost of the hospital’s refurbishment and renovation is Ugandan Shillings 43 Billion.

This comprehensive project includes hospital equipment procurement, ward refurbishment, the construction of a 16-unit staff housing block, and the renovation of existing dilapidated staff houses.
