RDC Ntungamo Muchunguzi Geoffrey expressed concern about the rising incidents of theft within Ntungamo Municipality, which has left the population on edge. He made this statement during the budget conference for the Central Division for the fiscal year 2024/2025, where he was the chief guest. The conference took place at the Division council Hall in Ntungamo Municipality.

Cadre Muchunguzi attributed the increase in theft to drug addicts and unemployed youth. He called upon local leaders to utilize the local council systems to combat this issue.

He commended the technical staff of the Central Division, led by Senior Assistant Town Clerk Ainomugisha Coreta, and the political leadership under Mugisha Robert Kanyate, the Central Division chairman, for being the first local council to organize a Budget conference in the entire district.

Mayor Ntungamo Municipality Jacob Kafureeka, represented by Municipal Youth Councilor Dalton Ainomugisha, urged law enforcement agencies, including town agents, to exercise politeness and provide excellent customer care when collecting revenue from taxpayers.

Councilor Ainomugisha praised the government for its consistent support of local governments and urban authorities in terms of development.

Central Division chairperson Mugisha Robert Kanyate encouraged representatives of the people to always voice their priorities, which will be taken into account for the upcoming fiscal year 2024/2025.

Kanyate noted that the Division has struggled to perform effectively due to delays and the failure of many businesses to pay their taxes while still demanding services.

He expressed gratitude to the council, technical staff, and all stakeholders for their cooperation and hard work in promoting the development of the Central Division.

Senior Assistant Town Clerk Ainomugisha Coreta expressed appreciation for the participants’ presence at the budget conference, emphasizing its importance in the planning and budgeting process.

She mentioned that the Central Division had achieved its revenue collection target of over 66 million, a record high since the Division’s establishment. Ainomugisha stated that they anticipate local revenue of over UGX 263 million in the fiscal year 2024/2025, up from UGX 250 million in 2023/2024. She also highlighted both past achievements and upcoming goals.
