Christians have been urged to follow God’s will by prioritizing faith in Jesus Christ, seeking His guidance, and living lives aligned with biblical values such as prayer, Bible study, and active participation in a supportive community of believers.

The message was delivered during the Martyrs Day Mass by Fazza Deusidadat Nuwagaba, a seminarian from Rushoroza Parish, who led the Holy Mass at Makiro Parish Denary in Kanungu Town Council, Kabale Diocese.

Fazza Nuwagaba urged Christians to love one another, embrace the love of God, continually seek repentance and forgiveness, and respect the Ten Commandments. He emphasized that love and obedience to God’s commandments are pivotal in human life.

He also highlighted that June is a sacred month commemorating the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for their faith. He reminded the faithful that Jesus was the first martyr, who died for our sins to grant us eternal life. He encouraged Christians to remain steadfast throughout this holy month, following the example of the martyrs who died because of their unwavering devotion to God.

Addressing the children, Fazza Nuwagaba called on them to respect their parents, remain united—especially within families—and cherish the Church. He cited a young martyr who died for his faith, noting how the martyrs faced their suffering and death with joy and courage.

The Parish Priest of Makiro Parish, Fazza Gerald Abenayezu, commended Christians for attending the Martyrs Day celebrations but cautioned them against arriving late for services. He appreciated the generosity of the Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, for supporting the parish by paving its compound. He urged Christians to support development-oriented leaders like him, particularly in the 2025/2026 general elections for Kinkizi East Constituency.

The celebrations attracted many Christians, including Ms. Fosca Twebaze Baryomunsi, wife of Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, who congratulated the faithful on reaching Martyrs Day. She commended Fazza Deusidadat Nuwagaba for the powerful message that not only encouraged love for God but also educated the congregation on spiritual and practical matters.

She revealed that Dr. Baryomunsi commended the faithful for their devotion and urged Christians to work hard, fight poverty in their households, and prioritize their children’s education. She also praised the pilgrims who travelled long distances to Namugongo for the national celebrations and called on Christians and church leaders to continue praying for their safe return.

Every year on June 3rd, the Catholic Church in Uganda and its diaspora commemorate Uganda Martyrs Day, honoring the brave men who were killed on the orders of Kabaka Mwanga of Buganda between 1885 and 1887 for their unwavering Christian faith.
