Christians in Kabale District have been advised to abstain from consuming meat as they observe Valentine’s Day, as it coincides with Ash Wednesday, marking the start of the Lenten season. This period traditionally involves refraining from meat consumption.

During the third Mass at Christ the King Catholic Parish in Kabale Municipality, Rev. Fr. Ignitius Arinaitwe, the Chaplain of the Daughters of Our Lady of Fatima in Kabale Diocese, stressed the significance of avoiding meat consumption during Valentine’s Day celebrations. He encouraged Christians to explore alternative food options and to dedicate the day to fasting and prayer, particularly focusing on nurturing relationships and marriages.

Furthermore, Rev. Fr. Arinaitwe urged Christians to embrace prayer, fasting, and acts of charity towards the less fortunate as they embark on their 40-day journey of fasting in preparation for Easter. Nevertheless, he cautioned against extreme fasting practices, especially for those who are unwell, highlighting the importance of maintaining a balanced approach to faith and prudence.
