The Chief Magistrate’s Court in Kabale has granted bail to Jolly Jackline Tukamushaba, the Western Uganda Deputy President of the National Unity Platform (NUP), who is facing charges of inciting violence.

Tukamushaba, who previously contested for the Rukiga District Woman Member of Parliament seat on the NUP ticket, was reportedly abducted on January 14, 2026, while distributing appointment letters and facilitation to party agents. She resurfaced three weeks later in custody and was subsequently arraigned before court.

On February 6, 2026, she appeared before Chief Magistrate Derrick Byamugisha and was charged with inciting violence contrary to Section 79(1) of the Penal Code Act, Cap 128. She was remanded to Ndorwa Government Prison until February 24, 2026. Tukamushaba denied all the charges.

The prosecution alleges that between December 2025 and January 2026, Tukamushaba incited members of the public to engage in acts of violence in Rukiga, Kabale, and Rukungiri districts. The state further claims she urged individuals to attack supporters of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) based on their political affiliation.

On Thursday afternoon, Tukamushaba was produced in court following a production warrant application filed by her lawyer, Godwin Masereka. Through her legal team, she presented four sureties: Leopold Twesigye, Emmanuel Turyasigura, Twesigye Luke, and Jiripina Kamusiime.

Chief Magistrate Byamugisha granted her cash bail of Shs1 million and bonded each of the four sureties at Shs5 million non-cash. The case was adjourned to February 24, 2026, for mention.
