Bishop Emeritus Patrick Tugume Tusingwire, former Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, has called on Christians to prioritize and invest in religion for the betterment of their families and the country’s moral fabric.
Bishop Tusingwire made the remarks on Thursday, June 19, 2025, while presiding over the funeral service of the late Canon Kedresi Nihondiha at her ancestral home in Nyakahanga A Cell, Masya Parish, Nyakagyeme Sub County, Rukungiri District.
In his sermon, the Bishop hailed Canon Kedresi’s lifelong service to God, which began at the age of 17 and spanned over six decades. He praised her devotion to church and family, noting her role in raising her children in faith. He decried the increasing moral decay in society, especially among youth, which he attributed to parental negligence in instilling Christian values.
Hon. Annah Katusiime Mugisha, Woman MP for Bushenyi District, commended the late Canon Kedresi’s family for their unity and care. She particularly applauded Burusa Kasande Mugabe, the deceased’s daughter-in-law, for her exceptional care and awarded her a cow in recognition. Hon. Mugisha urged women to honor their mothers-in-law for their role in raising future husbands.
Elidard Mugabe Nihondiha, the deceased’s son, described his mother as a strong and determined widow who prioritized the education and moral upbringing of her children. He confirmed that she passed away due to heart failure.
In heartfelt tributes, daughters-in-law Immaculate Katusiime and Nalongo Burusa Kasande praised Canon Kedresi as hardworking, loving, and God-fearing, pledging to carry on her legacy. Her grandson, Julius Amwine Brian, highlighted her deep commitment to education, which greatly influenced the family.
Canon Kedresi Nihondiha passed away at the age of 80. She is survived by 15 children, 56 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
