A tragic road accident in Rubanda District has claimed the life of a Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) staff member attached to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.

The accident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, October 12, 2025, at around 5:00 a.m. at Kitahurira village, Kashasha Parish, Ikumba Sub-county, along the Rubanda–Ruhija marram road.

According to police, a Toyota Premio, registration number UAW 683S, which was travelling from Kabale to Ruhija, lost control on a curved section of the road and overturned several times before landing in a sloping garden.

The driver, identified as Maloba Isaac, aged 31, a Samia by tribe and in-charge warden at Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park (Ruhija Sector), died on the spot. His colleague, Kibuka Jefferson, an accountant at the same park and a Mukonzo by tribe, sustained injuries and was rushed for medical attention.

Police from Rubanda Central Police Station, led by D/Cpl Saturday Sabatisian (Scene of Crime Officer) and PC Kauli Bohanon, visited the scene, retrieved the body, and took it to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem examination. The wreckage of the vehicle was towed to Rubanda CPS pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles.

ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cause of the accident.
