Residents of Bwanga Parish in Rukungiri District are raising concerns over the ongoing struggle to access clean and safe water in their area.

The community, located in Nyarushanje Sub County, is facing a serious water scarcity crisis that is now threatening public health and overall well-being.

Speaking to Boona FM, Kyomukama Ketty, a resident of Kyaruhotora Cell, revealed that they have spent weeks without access to clean water. She added that their children are equally affected while at school, exposing them to several health risks.

Meanwhile, Tumwesigye Alex, the Bwanga Parish Councilor and Speaker of Nyarushanje Sub County, told our reporter that the community has now spent three weeks without clean water. He said this situation has left residents with no choice but to rely on unsafe sources such as streams, ponds, and unprotected wells.

He emphasized that the lack of clean water increases the risk of waterborne diseases like cholera and typhoid. Tumwesigye is appealing to local authorities to urgently intervene and address the water scarcity crisis.

In response, the LC3 Chairperson of Nyarushanje Sub County, Musiime Michael, attributed the water scarcity to rampant environmental degradation in the area.

However, he reassured residents that the government has already launched a solar-powered water project in Kalama, Bunono Parish, which is currently under construction. He added that within three months, the project is expected to start supplying water to Bwanga Parish and the entire Nyarushanje Sub County
