Buyanja Sub County LC3 Chairperson, Mr. Agaba Emmy Rubondo, has called on the public to embrace community policing measures to combat the rising cases of theft.

He made the appeal on Wednesday, 19th March 2025, while addressing residents during a community voluntary work initiative to construct a house for Ms. Mercy Katusime, a widow in Nyakacwamba Cell, Nyakabungo Parish, Buyanja Sub County.

Mercy Katusime, a mother of two, lost her husband, the late Naboth Agaba, a boda boda rider who died in a fatal accident in Karangara on 16th February and was buried on 18th February 2025.

During the funeral service, mourners raised over 1.8 million UGX to complete the house that the deceased had started, having erected poles and partially roofed it before his passing.

Agaba Emmy Rubondo commended the community’s enthusiasm in supporting the construction and urged residents to work hard and adhere to community policing measures to combat theft. He cited recent cases of stolen lightning arrestors from primary schools, including Katungu, Kasheeshe, Rugarama, Nyakinengo, and Karunoni, as well as their respective founding churches.

Rev. Alfred Kasigazi, the parish priest of Nyakabungo Church of Uganda, praised the community’s dedication to the project and encouraged the public to prioritize charity work this Lenten season, emphasizing that acts of kindness bring blessings.

Didas Ndyamuhaki, the parish chief of Nyakabungo, commended the unity displayed by the community and urged residents to maintain the same spirit in the upcoming communal work to rehabilitate area roads.

David Rwakiseeta, the LC1 Chairperson of Nyakacwamba Cell, assured residents of continued community support to provide shelter for the orphans, reinforcing a local tradition of uplifting the disadvantaged.

Mercy Katusime expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support, stating that she had been stranded with her children and hopeless about the future.

Residents agreed to return for further construction work on Friday, 28th March 2025.
