Residents of Kinyamahwa village, Greater Kahoko Parish, Nyakagyeme Sub County, Rukungiri District, woke up to shocking news after a 70-year-old man was found dead under mysterious circumstances.
The deceased, identified as Tweheyo Eliasaafu, was discovered in the early hours of March 19, around 4:00 a.m., with a bottle of waragi beside him, believed to have been laced with an unknown poison. Reports suggest he may have consumed the toxic mixture, leading to his untimely death.
Greater Kahoko Parish Councillor Barugahare Johnson revealed that this is the third case of suspected suicide within Tweheyo’s clan, with two other family members having previously died in a similar manner. He condemned what he referred to as a “family trend” of self-harm and expressed concern over the high levels of alcohol consumption in the area.
Barugahare also noted that Tweheyo’s wife struggles with alcohol addiction, further raising concerns about the effects of excessive drinking within the community.
Grief-stricken residents gathered at Tweheyo’s home, where he was laid to rest Wednesday afternoon.
