Police in Bushenyi are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fire that broke out at the Presidential Initiatives on Banana Industrial Development (PIBID). The fire, which originated from an unknown source, started at around 5:30 AM on September 3, 2024, in the park yard area.
Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident. He stated that PIBID workers responded quickly to the fire, using extinguishers and water to bring it under control. Despite their efforts, materials worth millions were destroyed in the blaze.
Nathan Tumwebaze Kayogoza, 67, the Estate Development Officer and resident of Nyamushekyera Cell, Central Division, Bushenyi District, reported that the fire completely reduced the materials to ashes before it was eventually extinguished.
According to preliminary investigations, Tumusiime suggested that the fire may have been set by an insider. Among the destroyed items were irrigation materials, PVC water pipes, plumbing supplies, and iron sheets, among others.
