On Monday, a contingent of 37 pilgrims from St. Kagwa Catholic Parish in Bushenyi District embarked on their journey to the Namugongo Martyrs Shrine.
Before their departure, the group leader, Richard Bangirana, stated that the pilgrimage would span fourteen days.
Among the pilgrims is Mzee Benard Tibyangye, a 104-year-old man who holds the distinction of being the oldest member of the pilgrimage from Bushenyi District.
Bangirana noted that this marked the beginning of the pilgrimage season, with a second group scheduled to depart on May 20, 2024. He emphasized that every year, Christians from various backgrounds, including Protestants and Catholics, converge at the shrines to honor the memory of those who perished under the reign of Kabaka Mwanga of Buganda.
This year, the Anglican shrine will see participation from all dioceses within the Tooro region.
