Leaders in Bushenyi district have issued a stern warning to the head teachers of twenty-eight schools whose pupils were not graded by the Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) in the recently released results. During a meeting held at the district headquarters, the leaders conveyed their concerns and emphasized that those schools may face demotion if the situation persists.
They emphasized the need for the District Service Commission to prioritize promotions based on performance over the past three years, highlighting the injustice of promoting underperforming head teachers while neglecting others. They stressed the importance of addressing this issue urgently to improve the overall educational standards in the district.
Mr. Williams Ahabwe, the Bushenyi District Education Officer, expressed disappointment in many head teachers for failing to effectively supervise their staff, warning that those who do not improve their performance will face consequences.
Mr. Edward Mpabwa, the secretary for education and social services in Bushenyi District, urged school management committees to actively engage parents in supporting their children’s education and advocating for the development of their schools.
In the recently released Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) results, Bushenyi District recorded 934 pupils in grade 1, 2862 in the second grade, 595 in the third grade, while 383 received a U grade, and 68 received an X grade.
Several schools, including Keinamo, Bwooma, Nyandoozo, Kitakuka, and Kabushaho primary schools in Bumbaire sub-county, were among those affected. Others included Nyamwerande, Kikwamba, Ruhumoro, Katikamwe, Buyanja, Karyango, Kitwe, Kakoni, Rwanshesya, Kibizi, Kigondo, Kemitaha, Kiyagara, Rwenyena, Kyamacumu, and Nyamitooma primary schools.
Participants attributed the poor performance of candidates to inadequate inspections conducted by district officials, noting that inspectors tend to prioritize schools that provide them with incentives.
