Residents of Bunono Parish in Nyarushanje Subcounty, Rukungiri District, Decry Poor State of Ihambiro-Kazinga Road
It is reported that this road serves eight cells, which face great difficulty transporting their goods to Ihambiro Trading Centre and other nearby towns.
Speaking to our reporter, the chairperson of LC1 of Ihambiro Cell in Bunono Parish, Geoffrey Mugyenzi, said it is hard even for vehicles to use the road because of the potholes, which worsen during the rainy season.
He further noted that the road was last worked on about two years ago, expressing how difficult it is for them to transport their goods to nearby towns.
Bruce Ahimbisibwe, a resident of Ihambiro Cell, expressed his frustration over the poor state of the road, saying it was last worked on years ago by their area Member of Parliament and has since deteriorated due to the heavy rains.
He added that farmers struggle to transport their produce to market places, calling upon the responsible authorities to intervene and ease transportation.
The chairperson of LC2 of Bunono Parish, Davis Kabasharira, described the state of the road as quite alarming, emphasizing the need for pipes and culverts to allow water to flow properly rather than flooding the road.
He also noted that communal work has not been embraced, saying they were once helped by an individual who provided murram for the most damaged parts—something that happened some time ago. He called for the road’s renovation.
However, the Chairperson LC3 of Nyarushanje Subcounty, Micheal Musiime, said almost all roads in the subcounty are in a very poor state. He noted that the subcounty receives limited funds to cover all the roads and that the district has only one grader working across the entire area, which limits their capacity.
He added that environmental degradation has significantly contributed to the rapid deterioration of the roads, lamenting that heavy rains easily wash away the soil. He urged people to always engage in communal work as they wait for the government to rehabilitate the roads.
