The Mayor of Bukiro Town Council, Kashari South, Mbarara District, Mr. Tom Karuhanga, has advised parents to stop insulting each other whenever children demand basic services at home or when returning to school.

Karuhanga explained that as a mother and father, the two must have agreed to bring the children into the world, and there should be no reason why they cannot plan and budget together for the better upbringing of their children.

In his New Year message, Karuhanga urged men and women to always show love to each other and plan together in budgeting and expenditure. He emphasized that such efforts are essential for steady development within families and will lead to social and economic transformation, especially in providing education for their children.

Mayor Karuhanga stressed that mutual love and respect between spouses, as well as towards their children, builds unity and a spirit of teamwork within the family. Love fosters trust and hope, which are critical for a strong family foundation.

He further explained that it is wrong and undisciplined for a man or woman to respond to each other with abusive statements. Such behavior generates hatred, mistrust, and a lack of confidence, which ultimately erodes mutual trust and hope in the family.

Karuhanga reminded the public of the importance of eating and spending less on luxuries while prioritizing savings. He highlighted that developing a regular savings culture helps avoid financial challenges during emergencies.

To avoid financial difficulties, particularly when sending children to school, he encouraged parents to join community-based savings groups and save with SACCOs, particularly those under the Parish Development Model (PDM), which are community-created and community-controlled.

The Mayor advised parents that as they save, their top priority should be ensuring that all their children are sent to school, as education is the key to sustainable development.

He further explained that parents have a duty and responsibility to pay school fees, buy school uniforms, provide healthcare, ensure adequate food and shelter, and offer general social care, including monitoring their children’s movements.
