The Member of Parliament for Buhweju County has urged the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and other leaders in Ntungamo District to appeal to President Museveni for the release of former presidential candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye from prison, warning that his continued detention could threaten the country’s stability.

Speaking at the burial of the late Dinah Muhumuza in Mugono Village, Itojo Sub-county, Ntungamo District, MP Mwijukye cautioned that it would be disastrous if anything happened to Dr. Besigye while in prison, as it could plunge the country into chaos. He emphasized that NRM leaders in Ntungamo and other districts he is set to visit, including those in Kigezi where he will begin on the 13th of this month, have a responsibility to convey this message to the President in order to maintain stability.

During the funeral, several leaders also called on the government to address healthcare challenges, particularly by improving hospitals to ensure equitable access to medical services for all community members.

The late Dinah Muhumuza was the mother of outspoken NRM activist and Itojo Sub-county District Councilor, Denis Muhumuza Savimbi, and the wife of the late Bush War hero, Lt. William Muhumuza Bakebwa. She passed away at the age of 69, leaving behind four children. She had been widowed since 1994 when her husband passed away.

In his sermon, the Bishop of South Ankole Diocese urged mourners to extend kindness to others and support the oppressed, encouraging them to do good regardless of political affiliation, race, or gender.

Speakers at the funeral described the late Dinah Muhumuza as a courageous, loving, kind, and principled woman who raised her children to become responsible and influential members of society.
