As the Christmas season approaches, local leaders in Buhunga Sub-county are urging residents to prioritize security and financial prudence to ensure a safe and stress-free holiday.
The LC3 Chairperson, Auntie Benon Mugisha, has called on families to form security committees and organize patrols to curb rising cases of theft and other insecurities typically observed during the festive period. Speaking to our reporter alongside fellow councilors, Mugisha emphasized the importance of vigilance during the holidays.
“The festive season often brings a spike in insecurity due to carelessness and excessive celebrations. Residents should stay at home to safeguard their properties and establish patrols to keep their communities safe,” Mugisha advised.
He also encouraged residents to approach Christmas responsibly, reminding them to spend wisely and save for essential needs, particularly school fees and dues for their children in January. “Christmas is just another day, not the end of life. Spending responsibly and saving for the future will help families avoid financial stress in the new year,” he remarked.
Adding her voice to the appeal, Evaline Udaya, the woman councilor for Kibirizi, urged residents to limit alcohol consumption during the holidays, warning of its harmful effects on health. She also emphasized the need to save for unforeseen challenges.
“Next year will bring its own demands, from educating children to tackling emergencies like disease outbreaks. Spending wisely now ensures you’ll be prepared for what lies ahead,” Udaya said.
Meanwhile, Mugabe Passy, the councilor for Buhunga Parish, highlighted increasing cases of theft, especially of domestic animals, which often occur during the day. He urged residents to remain vigilant and take measures to protect their belongings.
Passy proposed that families create timetables for attending church services, ensuring that someone remains at home to watch over their property. “Simple precautions like these can go a long way in reducing theft during the holiday season,” he said.
The leaders’ collective message serves as a timely reminder for Buhunga residents to enjoy the festivities responsibly while safeguarding their future and maintaining community security.
