The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission has disqualified Sheikh Kassim Kamugisha from the race for NRM Vice Chairperson for Kabale District due to his failure to resign from a government position.

The decision, announced early today by NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi, cites Kamugisha’s continued service as Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Wakiso District as a direct violation of party electoral regulations. According to the rules, public servants must resign their positions before engaging in party primary contests.

Kamugisha had been vying for the position against Bridget Asinga, the LC5 Councillor for Kyanamira Sub-county. With his disqualification, Asinga now stands unopposed unless further developments occur.

The NRM continues to conduct its internal elections across the country, with more updates expected in the coming days.
