A faction of Boda-boda operators in Mbarara city is expressing opposition to the approach that the Mbarara city authorities are taking in organizing their leadership elections.

Led by chairpersons from various divisions, these cyclists allege that the city’s commercial officer, Buhanda Allan Karakure, and the commercial officer of the south division, Dickson Asiimwe, are not adhering to the boda-boda constitution in their election arrangements.

Sadius Owokunda, the chairperson of Mbarara city’s boda-boda operators, argues that the election roadmap indicates that the top boda-boda leadership will be selected by electoral colleges, contrary to their constitution, which allows every rider to directly participate in choosing the top leaders.

Sadius contends that electing the city’s boda-boda top leadership via the Electoral College puts the riders at a disadvantage, as their representatives may prioritize their interests.

Lauben Turyahabwe, the chairperson of Kakoba division’s boda-boda operators, also claims to not know the electoral process outlined by the city authorities.

Several motorcyclists from various stages within the city, who spoke with our reporter, expressed concerns that this election method may involve bribery of those participating in the electoral colleges.
