Hundreds of people from Rukungiri and neighboring districts on Wednesday flocked to Omukagashe Playground to meet the President of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine.

Kyagulanyi, who is among the presidential candidates in Uganda’s forthcoming elections, received a rousing welcome from enthusiastic supporters who turned up in large numbers to listen to his message of change and unity.

Addressing the crowd, Bobi Wine promised to improve service delivery across the country, emphasizing that every Ugandan deserves access to quality services without discrimination.

He pledged to tackle the growing problem of unemployment, especially among the youth, noting that poverty continues to affect many Ugandans while the current government remains silent on the issue.

“We shall fight for better services and create opportunities for young people. Every Ugandan deserves a fair chance to live a decent life,” Kyagulanyi said.

The NUP leader also vowed to promote justice and equality, criticizing the government for what he termed as the continued persecution of opposition members and the existence of numerous political prisoners.

The crowd expressed concern over the incarceration of Dr. Kizza Besigye, calling for his immediate release. Kyagulanyi echoed their sentiments, saying that freedom and justice for all Ugandans can only be achieved if citizens unite to demand change.

“The freedom of Dr. Besigye and many other innocent Ugandans will only come when we speak with one voice to end oppression,” Kyagulanyi told the gathering.

In an interview with our reporter, Kanyesigye Rodgers, a resident of Rukungiri Municipality, said he believes Bobi Wine has the potential to transform Uganda if given the mandate.

“If elected, I urge him to focus on eliminating unemployment and improving education and health services for all,” Kanyesigye noted.

Kyagulanyi’s visit to Rukungiri is part of his nationwide campaign tour aimed at rallying support ahead of the upcoming general elections.
