The Rt Rev Dan Zoreka, Bishop of the Diocese of Kinkizi, conducted a vibrant ordination service on Sunday at St Peter’s Cathedral Nyakatare in Kanungu district. Six deacons and two priests were ordained during the ceremony.
The ordained deacons include Rev Bannet Ariho, Rev Naume Kanyesigye, Rev Tayebwa Florence Matama Muhwezi, Rev Vitorine Kato, Rev Alex Aharimpisya, and Rev Samuel Nkwasiibwe. They recently completed their theological studies at Uganda Christian University Mukono and Bishop Barham Kabale.
The newly ordained priests are Rev Kenneth Twikirize and Rev Loyce Ampumuza. During the ordination, the deacons reaffirmed their oaths to honor the president, the bishop, and the canon laws of the Church of Uganda, where they will serve as clergy.
In his sermon, Ven Oscar Mwesigwa, the Archdeacon of Bubare Archdeconary in Kigezi diocese, encouraged the ordained clergy to expand the church’s membership while maintaining a commitment to Godliness. He emphasized the importance of following the constitution of the Church of Uganda and called on Christians to show respect and obedience to their leaders for the thriving of Christianity.
Bishop Zoreka announced that three reverends, namely Rev Saasi Benjamin Bahiira, Rev Fred Kyomukama, and Rev John Bashemerirwe, will retire by the end of the year, having reached the retirement age of 60 as per the Church of Uganda constitution. He commended the retiring clergy for their dedicated service and wished them well in their retirement.
Kinkizi West MP James Ruugi Kaberuka urged the newly ordained clergy to collaborate closely with their laity and the government to ensure success in their church work alongside the Christian community.
