The Bishop of Kinkizi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dan Zoreka, has paid glowing tribute to renowned philanthropist Dr. James Musinguzi Garuga, who passed away on Wednesday at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala.
Speaking to the media at his office, Bishop Zoreka described the late Dr. Garuga as a humble, generous, and development-oriented individual who dedicated his life to improving the lives of others. He said Dr. Garuga’s passion for uplifting communities was evident through his unwavering support for religious, educational, and health institutions.
The Bishop noted that the deceased played a pivotal role in establishing and supporting several post-primary schools, religious institutions, and health centers such as Nyakatare and Bwindi Community Hospital. He further supported clergy and lay leaders, ensuring the Church’s mission was sustained.
Dr. Garuga was also recognized for championing technical education, with plans to establish vocational institutions in areas such as Mpungu, Kayonza, Rushoroza, and Rutenga, aligning with the government’s Skilling Uganda initiative.
In addition, Bishop Zoreka hailed Dr. Garuga’s efforts in environmental conservation, saying he was instrumental in promoting the planting of indigenous tree species across churches and schools in the Diocese of Kinkizi and beyond — all provided free of charge.
The Bishop also lauded the late philanthropist for promoting the concept of a self-reliant Church through income-generating projects like tea growing and tourism development in areas such as Kilenzi and Ngoto.
