Bishop Johnson Twinomujuni of West Ankole Diocese delivered a cautionary message to the youth, urging them to steer clear of alcoholism and prostitution, which he highlighted as detrimental to the nation’s important individuals.

Speaking at the opening of the 15th Youths and Students convention in Bweranyangi cathedral, Bushenyi District, on Friday, Bishop Twinomujuni acknowledged the government’s efforts in combating unemployment and urged the youth to actively engage in the available opportunities to embark on a path towards prosperity.

Emphasizing the importance of respecting parents and avoiding worldly pressures that lead to sorrow, the bishop encouraged the youth to make responsible choices. Rev. Can Bethel Namara, the West Ankole secretary, explained that the convention, initially beginning as youth seminars, evolved with the aim of nurturing young individuals to strengthen the church in West Ankole.

Mr. Bright Niwaha, the West Ankole Diocesan communication and information officer, highlighted the diverse workshops offered during the four-day event, including talks, counseling, and sports activities such as football and talent shows where participants showcase various skills, including speeches and Bible studies.

Under the theme “Conforming to the word, not the patterns of the World,” the convention, initiated in 2007 by the former West Ankole Diocesan Bishop Yonah Mwesigwa Katonene, is set to conclude on Sunday. The event aims to bring young people closer to the church and instill Christian values in them.
