The Right Reverend Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe of the North Kigezi Diocese has called upon parents and other stakeholders to advocate for the education of both boys and girls if the country is to progress equally.

Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe, along with Maama Florence Asiimwe, made this appeal while delivering a sermon at St. James Church of Uganda in Karuhembe, part of the Kakinga Archdeaconry in Kebisoni Sub-county, Rukungiri District. During the sermon, Bishop Asiimwe also confirmed 96 children into the Anglican faith.

Bishop Asiimwe pointed out that while there has been a strong focus on educating girls, it is now essential to shift efforts towards educating boys. He emphasized that neglecting boys’ education could lead to future husbands struggling financially.

In his sermon, Bishop Onesmus Asiimwe urged parents to prioritize their children’s education, emphasizing that education serves as an equalizer, regardless of one’s socioeconomic status.

He also encouraged the people of Karuhembe to lead open and honest lives and to avoid actions that may strain their relationship with God.

Venerable Amos Katushabe, the leader of the Kakinga Archdeaconry, praised Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe for his commitment to enhancing academic standards in the diocese and urged Christians to support his mission. He mentioned that the bishop had also inaugurated a computer lab at Karuhembe Primary School and Nyakazinga Health Center II.

Ven. Amos expressed their readiness to keep the newly confirmed church members closely connected to the church and to provide them with guidance to become strong believers in the Anglican faith.

Pison Twijukye, the church priest of Karuhembe Church of Uganda, expressed gratitude to God for the bishop’s visit and requested the confirmed individuals to maintain their close connection with the church, serving as examples to others
