The Right Reverend Calist Rubaramira, the Bishop of Kabale Diocese, emphasized the importance of parents imparting strong religious values to their children and guiding them in their Catholic faith, discouraging them from straying to other religions.
He made this plea on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, during his sermon while presiding over a confirmation mass for 721 individuals and Holy Sacrament at Nyarushanje Catholic Parish in Kabale Diocese, located in Nyarushanje Sub County, Rukungiri District.
Bishop Calist Rubaramira expressed concern that the same determination parents show in areas such as dressing and education should also be applied when nurturing their children’s religious convictions, fostering a community of devout Catholic believers.
He further urged the younger generation to find strength and guidance in the Catholic Church for their success, and encouraged parents to fulfill their divine calling by caring for their families as a blessing from God.
Begumisa Fudel, the Chairperson of Nyarushanje Parish Council, acknowledged the commendable efforts of the church servants and called on the Bishop to consider elevating the Kihungye center to a Parish. She also requested the appointment of additional Reverend Fathers, given the size of the Parish. Furthermore, she asked the Bishop to play a role in advancing the transformation of Nyarushanje Polytechnic Institute into a university.
Reverend Father Elias Kasigaire, the Parish Priest of Nyarushanje Parish, praised the Bishop for the confirmation ceremony and encouraged the confirmands to embrace religious values to become exemplary Catholics. He also urged parents to uphold and nurture Christian faith.
