The Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, Rt Rev Onesmus Asiimwe, has called on Christians to fully repent and make a clear choice between serving God and the devil, warning against misleading fellow believers.
He made the remarks during the installation of Venerable Benson Akankwatsa as the Archdeacon of All Saints Church in Rujumbura Archdeaconry.
Bishop Asiimwe described Ven. Akankwatsa as a humble and down-to-earth servant of God, noting that such qualities attract God’s favor and exaltation. He reminded Christians that leadership is given by God, not earned, and urged them to remain prayerful and committed to representing God faithfully in their daily lives. He also appealed to believers to live as true Christians if they have accepted Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.
The Bishop emphasized the importance of prayer in church growth, saying it is the foundation that will sustain Ven. Akankwatsa in his new role. He further encouraged parents to give their children meaningful names, noting that a name reflects a person’s identity. Additionally, he advised Christians not to blame God for their family backgrounds, stressing that while one cannot change the past, they can shape their future.
In his remarks, Ven. Benson Akankwatsa expressed gratitude to the Bishop for entrusting him with the responsibility of serving as Archdeacon of Rujumbura Archdeaconry. He pledged to serve with humility and dedication, relying on God for guidance. He also thanked the organizers and Christians for their warm welcome and support, affirming his readiness to work with them in fulfilling God’s mission in the area.
The Guest of Honor, a senior police officer from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Head of Laity at St. Andrew’s Kyitazigurukwa Church of Uganda, Henry Akatutungyisa, commended Bishop Asiimwe and his wife, Maama Florence, for their strategic leadership, which he said has led to visible transformation across the diocese. He highlighted progress in gospel ministry, coffee growing, cathedral construction, and the education sector.
He also described Ven. Akankwatsa as a committed, organized, and hardworking servant of God, noting his strong time management skills and financial discipline in handling church resources.
