Veteran opposition politician Dr. Kizza Besigye and his co-accused, 65-year-old Hajji Obedi Rutale, appeared before the General Court Martial in Makindye, Kampala, on November 20, 2024.

They are facing four charges, including security-related offenses and unlawful possession of firearms, allegedly committed at Riverside Apartments in Nairobi, Kenya.

Both defendants pleaded not guilty to all charges. The court remanded them in custody until December 2, 2024.

Dr. Besigye arrived at the court in a convoy of three Military Police vehicles.

It is alleged that the former FDC president had been reported missing in Nairobi, where he had traveled to attend a book launch by Martha Karua, Kenya’s former Justice Minister.
