The journey for Hon. Mary Paula Turyahikaho to return to Uganda’s Parliament has officially kicked off following her successful nomination today for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries.

Accompanied by a cheering crowd of supporters, Hon. Paula was formally nominated by Dr. Tanga Odoi, the Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission, after fulfilling all the party requirements. With this endorsement, she is now one of the official candidates in the forthcoming NRM internal elections scheduled for July 16, 2025.

Addressing the press, Hon. Paula stated her renewed entry into politics is driven by a deep desire to bring back service-driven and development-oriented leadership to Rukungiri District. She cited multiple challenges encountered during her recent district-wide tour—including the lack of clean water, Education, electricity, and inadequate healthcare—as key areas she is determined to address.

I am back to serve the people of Rukungiri with a mission of true representation and tangible service delivery,” Hon. Paula said.

On the issue of unfulfilled government projects, Hon. Paula promised to follow up on critical road infrastructure, including the long-awaited Kebisoni–Kisizi–Muhanga road and other tourism-access roads in Bwambara Subcounty. She further revealed her plans to lobby for the upgrade of health facilities and the completion of the Queen Elizabeth National Park fence—a move aimed at minimizing human-wildlife conflict.

She also emphasized the need to ensure schools like Rweshama Primary School acquire UNEB center numbers to ease examination challenges faced by pupils. In addition, she plans to advocate for the expansion of electricity to communities already connected to the national grid in Rukungiri District.

Hon. Paula rallied the residents of Rukungiri district to support her vision of a people-centered leadership rooted in accountability, results, and community welfare. “It is time for the people to elect a leader who will stand firm and serve with dignity and purpose,” she said.
