The Bishop Annual Appeal Fund (BAAF) fundraising event for the Rukungiri chapter held at Nyakibale parish in Rukungiri district raised an impressive total of over 332 million Uganda shillings in pledges and cash on Saturday. The event was presided over by Bishop Calistus Rubaramira, the Kabale Diocesan bishop.

Peter Ngategize, the general chairperson of BAAF Kabale diocese, highlighted that BAAF was initially introduced in Uganda by the late Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga and was embraced by the Kabale diocese under the leadership of Bishop Calistus Rubaramira. Since 2018, Bishop Calistus Rubaramira has been instrumental in establishing various developmental projects across the diocese.

Wenceslaus Maanige, the chairperson of the organizing committee for the Rukungiri chapter, expressed his appreciation for the hard work of his fellow committee members, which contributed to the success of the fundraising ceremony.

Hon. Medius Natukunda Kaharata, the Rukungiri district Woman MP, commended Bishop Rubaramira for his initiative to establish a university that will enhance educational standards in Uganda.

The chief guest, Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi, who also serves as the minister of security and represents Rujumbura county, acknowledged Bishop Rubaramira’s visionary leadership. He particularly praised the bishop for initiating the construction of a university and pledged his support to the BAAF program. He contributed 10 million Uganda shillings and mobilized over 15 million from his friends.

Bishop Calistus Rubaramira expressed his gratitude for the generous contributions made toward the establishment of the university. He invited everyone to the BAAF climax event on November 25, 2023, at Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral. He urged people to continue mobilizing resources to reach the required 3 billion shillings for the university to begin operations.

Several parishes made substantial contributions, with Nyakibale parish, led by Rev. Fr. Conald Atuhaire, contributing over 75 million, and Nyakishenyi parish, led by Rev. Fr. Mugisha Ambrose Kayogoza, contributing over 61 million. Additionally, various other parishes also contributed over 15 million.

The event was attended by notable individuals, including former Rubabo county legislator Hon. Mary Paula Turyahikayo, former Rukungiri Woman MP Bety Muzanira, members of the business community, and many others.
