The Archbishop of Mbarara Archdiocese, Lambert Bainomugisha, urged parents to raise their children with Christian values to foster their development into productive members of society.
Archbishop Lambert made these remarks during a Mass held at St. Daniel Comboni Parish in Bitooma, where he oversaw a confirmation ceremony for 136 candidates receiving the sacrament of confirmation.
He expressed concern that many parents have neglected their duty to provide moral guidance and quality education to their children, leading to their exposure to immoral influences.
The parish priest, Rev. Fr. Elpidius Bainobuganzi, highlighted that the event also aimed to raise funds for the construction of a commercial building in Bitooma Town Council, which will serve as a revenue source for the parish. He noted the challenges faced due to a decline in tea prices since the previous year, affecting the church’s ability to sustain its activities solely through donations and tithes.
Francis Mwijukye, the Member of Parliament for Buhweju County, urged church leaders to initiate income-generating projects in their areas of operation. He emphasized that such endeavors would alleviate the financial burden on parishioners, preventing them from feeling obligated to tithe beyond their means, which has led some to disengage from church activities.
