The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev Dr Stephen Samuel Kazimba Mugalu, has expressed his admiration for the leadership and mission-oriented approach of Bishop Rt Rev Dan Zoreka, who heads the Diocese of Kinkiizi. Archbishop Kaziimba’s sentiments were conveyed through a message delivered by Bishop Emeritus Eng. George Bagamuhunda of the Diocese of Kigezi during a thanksgiving event commemorating Bishop Dan Zoreka’s 13-year tenure as a Bishop. The event took place at St Peter’s Cathedral, Nyakatare in Kanungu District.
Archbishop Kaziimba lauded Bishop Zoreka for his active involvement in the House of Bishops and provincial meetings, particularly his representation on the Provincial Assembly Standing Committee (PASC). He also expressed his anticipation of closer collaboration in the future, as Bishop Zoreka is set to assume the role of Substantive Dean of the Province.
Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe, who delivered the sermon, emphasized the significance of thanksgiving and salvation at both individual and family levels. He described Bishop Zoreka as a leader of faith, a skilled Bible teacher, a proficient communicator, a time manager, an advisor, an effective administrator, and a figure dedicated to development.
Bishop Dan Zoreka called for unity among the community to drive forward development and transformation, expressing gratitude to all who had supported him during his 13 years as the diocesan bishop. He also thanked those who had contributed to the renovation and expansion of the cathedral.
Former Prime Minister of Uganda and Chairman of the Diocese of Kinkiizi Kampala Fellowship, Rt Hon Amaama Mbabazi, praised Bishop Zoreka for his initiatives in establishing projects aimed at promoting self-sustainability within the Diocese and community transformation. Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, Member of Parliament for Kinkiizi East and the ICT Minister, expressed appreciation for Bishop Dan Zoreka’s advocacy in support of peaceful and self-sustainable families, promising continued government support for the development agenda of the Diocese of Kinkiizi.
Eng. Sam Arinaitwe Kajojo, the Kanungu District Chairperson and Chairperson of the Cathedral Expansion committee, announced that all proceeds from the Thanksgiving ceremony would be allocated towards the restoration and enhancement of St. Peter’s Cathedral, Nyakatare. He commended Businessman and Philanthropist Dr. James Musinguzi Garuga for donating iron sheets worth 100 million Ugandan Shillings to the cause, as well as the generosity of Christians who had contributed significantly.
Bishop Dan Zoreka was elected as the second Bishop of the Diocese of Kinkiizi on October 6, 2010, and consecrated as a Bishop on October 10, 2010, by Archbishop Emeritus Dr. Henry Luke Orombi at St Peter’s Cathedral, Nyakatare. He succeeded Bishop John Wilson Ntegyereize, who passed away in 2021.
