A total of 300 million Ugandan shillings was successfully raised on Sunday at the Bishop Annual Appeal Fund (BAAF) for the Kanungu chapter. This fundraising event took place at Makiro Parish and was led by Bishop Calistus Rubaramira, the Kabale Diocesan bishop.

The chairperson of the organizing committee for the Kanungu chapter, Hon Jacqueline Kyatuheire, who also serves as the NRM deputy National treasurer, expressed her gratitude to the committee members for their outstanding efforts in raising funds to support the BAAF program in their respective parishes. She personally contributed over 25 million shillings and received additional support from her friends, particularly from the NRM secretariat, through her mobilization efforts.

Hon Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, the Minister of ICT and National Guidance, served as the chief guest and commended Bishop Rubaramira for initiating the BAAF project. He highlighted how this project has contributed to development in the Kigezi region, including the establishment of commercial buildings that now house Centenary Bank, generating income for the diocese.

Minister Baryomunsi emphasized that the St Ignatius University, a part of the BAAF project, would be open to people of all religions, encouraging parents to provide their children with education. He also mentioned his connections to various national and international universities, expressing his commitment to facilitate collaboration between St Ignatius University and other institutions, as well as with the government, to transform it into a modern university in the Kigezi region. He contributed 50 million shillings to the BAAF fundraising for the Kanungu chapter and later added 13 million shillings to reach a total of 300 million shillings.

Bishop Calistus Rubaramira extended his appreciation to all the people of Kanungu for their contributions and invited them to the BAAF climax event on November 25, 2023, which will be held at Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral. He urged continued mobilization of resources, as 3 billion shillings are required to ensure that the university has all the necessary essentials to commence its operations.
