Excessive alcohol consumption and drug abuse have greatly contributed to family breakdowns and domestic violence in Kishanda 2 Cell, Nyakinengo Parish, Nyakagyeme Sub-County.

According to reports from residents and local leaders, women are condemned for excessive alcohol consumption, whereas men are criticized for smoking marijuana. These habits have resulted in an alarming increase in daily cases of family breakdown and domestic violence.

Nyakwezi Agnes, a resident in the area, expressed her frustration to a Boona Radio reporter about married women prioritizing alcohol consumption. She highlighted that this behavior often leads to women sleeping in the bush, committing adultery, and engaging in fights in bars, further exacerbating family breakdowns and domestic violence. She also mentioned the failure of some women to perform their family responsibilities.

Evalisto Byarugaba, another resident from Kishanda 2 Cell, who requested anonymity for the broadcast, told our reporter that some residents spend the entire day drinking alcohol instead of working in their fields. This neglect of work has significantly contributed to domestic violence and family breakdowns.

Byarugaba Lawrence, the Nyakinengo Parish Councillor in Nyakagyeme Sub-County, highlighted the increasing daily challenges caused by domestic violence in the area. He condemned alcoholism as the root cause and urged residents to embrace cooperation, unity, and liberty to support the growth and development of their community.

Furthermore, Councillor Byarugaba warned married men and women to abandon these harmful habits and focus on improving their families and educating their children. He expressed frustration about married women drinking alcohol, sleeping in the bush, and fighting in bars, condemning these behaviors as significant contributors to family breakdown and domestic violence.
