Police in Buhweju District are investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a seven-year-old child.
The accident occurred in Kikyuzi Village, Nsiika Town Council, along the Nsiika-Kajani Road in Buhweju District.
Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, which took place on October 13, 2024, at around 4:00 PM.
According to Tumusiime, the accident claimed the life of Prossy Tweshegyereze, the daughter of Lawrence Kabundama, a resident of Katobero Cell, Kikyuzi Ward, Nsiika Town Council, Buhweju District.
It is alleged that the rider of an unidentified motorcycle, traveling from Kajani towards Nsiika, lost control upon reaching Kikyuzi Village and struck a pedestrian walking on the far side of the road. The child died on the spot.
Tumusiime added that the body has been taken to Nsiika Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination, and investigations are ongoing.
