Police in Sheema District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 63-year-old businessman, believed to have been poisoned amid a land dispute.

The incident occurred on July 14, 2024, around 2:30 PM at Rushoroza Cell, Kagango Division, Sheema Municipality, Sheema District. Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi Police, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Adriano Baale, a resident of Bunyagongo Cell, Kagango Division, Sheema Municipality.

It is alleged that on July 14, 2024, Baale accompanied his wife to Rwabutura Catholic Church for prayers. Upon returning to Kabwohe town, he inspected his rental buildings and then proceeded to Shell Kabwohe to refuel his car.

Instead of driving home, witnesses reported seeing him driving at high speed towards Ngoma. Along the way, his car’s engine suddenly stopped after hitting a hump. Baale abandoned the vehicle with its ignition key and continued on foot to an unknown destination.

On July 15, 2024, his body was discovered in a pond on Siraji’s farm in Rushoroza Cell. Family members indicated that Baale had a long-standing land dispute pending in the court of Kagango, Sheema District, suggesting a possible motive for his death.

Tumusiime mentioned that Baale’s body emitted a suspected pesticide odor, and it was transported to Kabwohe Health Center IV for a postmortem examination. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
