Police in Rubirizi District have arrested a 29-year-old woman on allegations of murdering her husband in a domestic altercation.
The incident occurred on the night of Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at around 11:30 PM in Katara 1 Village, Katara Parish, Kichwamba Sub-county, Rubirizi District.
Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson, Marcial Tumusiime, identified the suspect as Agnes Tusingwire, a 29-year-old peasant from Nyakagyezi Village, Katanda Sub-county, Rubirizi District. The deceased was identified as 30-year-old Brian Twimukye, a businessman from Ndaragi Village, Kakanju Sub-county, Bushenyi District.
According to police reports, Tusingwire and Twimukye met two years ago and lived together as husband and wife in Bushenyi District, where they welcomed a baby girl, now six months old. In August 2024, the couple relocated to Rubirizi District and started a small business.
The relationship was reportedly fraught with allegations of infidelity and instances of domestic violence, as evidenced by both old and fresh wounds observed on the bodies of the suspect and the deceased.
Pasko Mwesigye, a 50-year-old businessman and resident of Kyanyonza Village, Katara Parish, told police the couple had quarreled over a UGX 50,000 note whose source the suspect refused to disclose. During the argument, fearing further physical assault, Tusingwire allegedly grabbed a panga that was nearby. In the struggle, she reportedly used it to inflict fatal cuts on her husband’s neck, arms, and left leg.
Twimukye was rushed to Rugazi Health Center IV in an unconscious state but succumbed to his injuries an hour later.
The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
