The death toll from two separate accidents in Mbarara has increased to six. The first accident occurred at Mile 3 on Isingiro road claiming the lives of four people on the spot while others escaped with serious injuries.
They were killed when a canter truck registration number UAZ 438E destined for Isingiro from Nyamitanga tried to overtake another vehicle and collided with a Boda Boda coming from the opposite direction. The truck tried to evade another oncoming vehicle and rammed into a Toyota Corolla registration number UAE 777U killing the driver the co-driver died on the spot while three victims traveling in the same vehicle survived with injuries.
Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Regional Police spokesperson said the driver of the Toyota Corolla, who is yet to be identified died at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital.
Kasasira identified the dead as Allen Mwebaze 36, Apollo Mwebaze 45 all from Rwetamu village, Kiruhura District, Mary Kakwera 70 and George Kanyigana 40 from Rwamagwa Rakai District.
In the second accident, Kasasira identified the deceased as Adrine Kyokunda 27 from Kinoni in Rwampara District. Kyokunda died in an accident that happened in Ruti Mbarara City South Division along Mbarara-Kabale road which involved a motor vehicle registration number UAY 169E Toyota Spacio and motorcycle registration number UEY 417V Bajaj boxer.
Kyokunda who was carrying a minor on the Bajaj motorcycle was run over by a vehicle Killing her on spot. The rider and the second passenger together with the baby were rushed to Mbarara hospital in critical condition.
