The Kabale Grade One Magistrate Court has granted cash bail of 300,000 shillings and non-cash bail of one million shillings to an 18-year-old boy accused of libel.
The suspect, Allan Kanyesigye, a resident of Kabirizi Village, Kitojo Parish, Rwamucucu Sub-county, Rukiga District, is charged with libel against Rukiga County Member of Parliament, Honorable Roland Ndyomugyenyi Bish. Kanyesigye allegedly shared a document on social media claiming that Honorable Ndyomugyenyi is one of the corrupt members of Parliament.
Kanyesigye was arrested on Tuesday by police in Rukiga District following a complaint from Honorable Ndyomugyenyi at Kabirizi Trading Center and was subsequently taken to court. He appeared before the Kabale Grade One Magistrate Court, presided over by His Worship Julius Mutabazi, on Tuesday evening.
Kanyesigye requested bail, which was granted by His Worship Mutabazi at 300,000 shillings in cash and one million shillings in non-cash bail, after Kanyesigye provided two sureties. The case has been adjourned to September 3, 2024.
Speaking to our reporter, Kanyesigye claimed that he was arrested at his residence on charges of computer misuse. He stated that the police informed him that the arrest was related to a social media document accusing Honorable Ndyomugyenyi of corruption.
