Police in Bushenyi District are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of a 17-year-old girl in a fatal accident.
The incident occurred at Kitwe trading centre in Rwentuha town council, situated in Bushenyi District. Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi police, has identified the victim as Abellah Amutusimire, a resident of Kihunda village in Sheema District.
According to Tumusiime, the accident took place on Monday around 2:30 PM. It involved a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with registration number UEY 741L and a maroon Sino truck with registration number UAZ 831K.
Reportedly, the motorcycle, ridden by Clinton Niwetwesiga, 24, was carrying a passenger from Sheema towards Bushenyi. Upon reaching Rwentuha trading center, Niwetwesiga noticed a Sino truck approaching from behind through the side mirror. In an attempt to give way to the truck, he swerved to the left, causing the passenger to fall off the motorcycle and tragically lose her life instantly.
Tumusiime mentioned that as part of the ongoing investigation, the police have apprehended Wahab Tugumisirize, 39, the driver of the Sino truck with registration number UAZ 831K, to assist with inquiries.
Furthermore, he stated that the body of the deceased has been transported to Kampala International Teaching Hospital for a postmortem examination.
