The territorial police in Kisoro District are investigating a tragic road accident that claimed the life of a 15-year-old boy on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased, Paul Halerimana, a resident of Busalo Village in Muganza Parish, Chahi Sub-county, was fatally struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the Kisoro–Kabale highway at around 2:15 PM.

According to preliminary police reports, the accident involved a white Toyota Harrier with registration number UAS 026M, driven by Dan Munyambabazi, 54, who serves as the Town Clerk of Kyahafi Town Council in Kisoro. It is alleged that Halerimana entered the road without observing for oncoming traffic. The driver, in an attempt to avoid hitting him, lost control and knocked him, resulting in his death on the spot.

Kisoro District Traffic Officer, ASP Ainomugisha Musa, and his team promptly visited the scene, documented the incident, and issued the necessary forms for a postmortem examination.

The vehicle involved has been impounded and is currently parked at Kisoro Central Police Station pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV). Halerimana’s body was handed over to his relatives following the postmortem.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
