An investigation has been launched by the police in Rukungiri following the tragic death of a 15-year-old boy in a road accident on the Rukungiri-Kanungu road.

The victim has been identified as Kyokwijuka Dismus, a sixth-grade student at Kakinda Primary School. The accident occurred yesterday evening near Bagahwe trading center in Bungagari sub-county, Rukungiri district.

According to information received from a source, the young boy lost his life when a vehicle Fuso Fighter box body registration number UBM 711G traveling from Rukungiri to Kanungu veered off the road and struck him as he stood near the roadside.

The police report indicates that the accident was caused by a mechanical issue with the vehicle. The drive shaft malfunctioned, leading to the driver losing control and the vehicle veering off the road.

Authorities from Rukungiri Central station visited the accident site, conducted a postmortem examination, and then released the deceased’s body to his family for a proper burial. Survivors of the accident were promptly taken to Nyakibale hospital for medical treatment.

As of now, the vehicle involved in the accident remains at the scene of the incident, awaiting transportation to Rukungiri Central Police Station for a thorough inspection.
