The Ministry of Education and Sports, in collaboration with the Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT), has recently conferred certificates upon 110 individuals from Rukungiri district who completed training and graduated in various vocational skills.

Funded by President Museveni through the Presidential Advisory Committee on Industrial Development (PACEID), overseen by Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Duties, Oderek Rwabwogo, the program aims to enhance vocational education in the region.

During the certificate handover ceremony, Wilberforce Ahimbisibwe Ongom, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner of Rukungiri, emphasized the domestic and international recognition of these certificates in the labor market. He encouraged graduates to pursue further assessment levels, highlighting that the program is fully funded by the president.

Matsiko Erick, the Western Uganda Regional Officer of PACEID, explained the rigorous selection process by DIT officials, ensuring the competence of the graduates. The program prioritizes practical knowledge and hands-on experience to foster entrepreneurship among the graduates.

George Mugarura, the Kigezi Regional Program Coordinator, emphasized that the program accommodated both educated and non-educated individuals, focusing on developing relevant skills for job creation.

Jolly Masheija, the Rukungiri District Women Chairperson and a beneficiary in agriculture, expressed gratitude to President Museveni for inclusivity, urging more women to enroll for skill enhancement.

Notably, beneficiaries like 64-year-old Eliot Tibenderana and Sympson Amanya highlighted the challenge of lacking academic qualifications despite possessing practical skills, underscoring the importance of such vocational programs.

The beneficiaries received training in diverse areas including hairdressing, agriculture, catering, welding, motorcycle repair, electrical and electronics, soap, and shoe making.

Hon. Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa, the Rukungiri Municipality legislator, urged graduates to effectively utilize their certificates to contribute meaningfully to society.
