Ten individuals were arrested last night in a security operation led by the Kabale Central Police Station (CPS), headed by Inspector of Police Twesigye Davis, the Officer in Charge of Operations.

The intelligence-led operation, conducted during the night hours, targeted suspected wrong elements believed to be behind rising insecurity in Kabale municipality. The suspects were apprehended from various locations within the town during the early morning hours and failed to provide satisfactory explanations for their movements. Some were found smoking and in possession of opium, raising further security concerns.

Police say these operations are part of an ongoing effort to curb criminal activities such as waylaying of travellers, snatching of bags, burglary, and theft.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate urged the public to cooperate with security agencies and avoid unnecessary movements at night. “If movement at night is necessary, people should use well-lit streets, avoid shortcuts, and walk in groups. Reporting suspicious individuals is also key in keeping our communities safe,” Maate advised.

The suspects will be arraigned in court upon completion of investigations to face charges of being in possession of opium and public nuisance.

Police have pledged to continue with similar operations to ensure the safety and security of residents across Kabale municipality.
