Police in Kanungu district have launched investigations into the suspected murder of an unidentified female adult whose body was discovered in River Ntungwa, tied with ropes and packed in a sack.
According to the Kigezi region police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, the body was found on Friday afternoon by young boys who were fishing in the river. The boys noticed a green sack stuck in the water and were shocked to discover a lifeless body inside.
They quickly alerted the area Chairperson of Kanabizo cell in Ntungwa Parish, Nyamirama Sub-county, who dispatched his defence secretary, David Kasigeire, to report the matter to police.
A team of detectives visited and documented the scene before retrieving the body, which was then taken to Kanungu Health Centre IV mortuary for a postmortem examination.
“The body was still fresh, indicating the victim may have been killed earlier in the day before being dumped in the river,” ASP Maate said.
Police are appealing to the public to report any missing persons and visit the health center mortuary to help with identification and ensure a dignified burial for the deceased.
Investigations are ongoing to identify the culprits and establish the motive behind the killing.
