The territorial police in Kabale are holding three university students in connection with the torture and indecent assault of a 19-year-old woman, identified as Princess Kyampeire.
The suspects, who were captured in a viral video brutalizing the victim, have been named as Turyatunga Frugence (28), Muhozi Denis (24), and Tindyebwa Daudi—all students of Kabale University.
According to police, the incident took place on September 19, 2025, after the suspects accused Kyampeire of stealing an Itel phone and an unspecified amount of money from the residence of Anita Kwarisima, a student of UCC Kabale and resident of Kirijime cell, Mwanjari ward in Southern Division, Kabale Municipality.
The trio was arrested on September 20, 2025, and is currently in custody pending completion of police investigations. They are expected to be arraigned before court to face charges.
Police spokesperson for Kigezi region, ASP Elly Maate, condemned acts of mob justice, urging the public to seek redress through lawful means such as local leaders or relevant authorities instead of taking the law into their own hands.
“Inquiries are still underway,” Maate confirmed.
