Six suspects have been arrested by territorial police in Rukungiri following an intelligence-led operation conducted in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
According to the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate, the operation was carried out on May 6, 2026, at around 2:30am at a local bar along Court Road in Rukungiri.
Maate said the suspects had allegedly camped at the bar pretending to be consuming alcohol, something that raised suspicion among the bar operators who later alerted police.
“Upon receiving the information, police immediately responded and arrested the suspects for questioning,” Maate said.
The arrested suspects were identified as Nayamba Agness, 21, Amazing Jomitom, 18, Asiimwe Ronald, 28, Orikiriza Laban, 34, Sasirabo Ibrahim, a 16-year-old juvenile, and another Asiimwe Ronald aged 19 years.
Maate commended residents and bar operators for their vigilance and cooperation with security agencies, saying their quick action contributed to the successful operation.
He added that police will continue carrying out disruptive operations across the Kigezi sub-region to ensure a crime-free society.
