The Diocese of Kinkiizi is today celebrating 31 years of spiritual growth and social transformation since its establishment on May 7, 1995, after it was curved out of the North Kigezi Diocese.

The Diocese, which serves the present-day Kanungu District, welcomed the late Rt. Rev. John Wilson Ntengyereize as its first Bishop before his retirement in 2010.

Speaking from his office today, the current Bishop of Kinkiizi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dan Zoreka, who has served since 2010, reflected on the remarkable journey of the Diocese over the last three decades. He expressed gratitude to Christians and leaders in Kinkiizi for their commitment and devotion, saying their efforts have laid a strong foundation for the growth of the church.

Bishop Zoreka noted that apart from expanding the Gospel ministry, the Diocese has also played a significant role in promoting social transformation through the establishment of schools, health centres, early childhood development centres, and financial institutions, all of which have improved the livelihoods of people across the district.

Despite the achievements, Bishop Zoreka acknowledged that the Diocese still faces challenges, including poverty, limited resources, and sectarianism. However, he expressed optimism that these challenges will eventually be overcome as the church continues to grow and strengthen its mission.

The Bishop further emphasized the importance of household income generation, urging Christians to focus not only on spiritual growth but also on economic empowerment. He encouraged believers to engage in income-generating activities such as farming to improve their standards of living and support their families.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, all churches under Kinkiizi Diocese are expected to hold thanksgiving services this Sunday, May 10. The main celebration event will take place on May 17, 2026, at the Kambuga Annex grounds for the African University of Science and Management.
